JESUS, THE ETERNAL ONE. Micah, the prophet proclaimed the coming of the Messiah. He was to be born in Bethlehem [the house of bread] Ephrata [fruitfulness]. What meaningful names so befitting the One who came as the bread of life and the living vine. Micah 5:2 He who was to be the King of Israel. But not at the time of His birth. He did not come to establish a secular kingdom. His kingdom is not of this world. John 18:36 His kingdom is a Spiritual, everlasting kingdom. His goings forth or family descent are from antiquity, eternity or time out of mind, before creation.
MELCHISEDEC. There is no better example of His Deity to be found in the scriptures than that which is given in the book of Hebrews, in relationship to Melchisedec. When Abraham met Him, he immediately paid homage to Him. By paying tithes of all the booty which had fallen into his hands. All those who are children of Abraham, after the Spirit, should tithe. The giving of the tithe preceded the Law, and is an act of faith. This great personage who Abraham met was without a Father and without a mother. He was parentless because He was eternal and therefore God. There is only one who can fit the description given Him. Had no beginning of days, no birthday. No end of life, ever living and everlasting. Having the office of the Son of God, an abiding, everlasting priesthood. Who could he possible be but the Lord Jesus. Is there another like Him? Heb. 7:3 It is declared. There will come one who is after the same order, the same priesthood, eternal and everlasting. Heb. 7:17 This is by decree of the Lord and He will not ever alter His purpose in this priesthood. Heb. 7:21 This priesthood does not pass from Father to Son. Because Jesus is eternal the eternal priesthood is His. Heb. 7:24 Because He is LIFE [ever living] the ministry of intercession is His. Heb. 7:25 To seal the matter, His title is the King of Salem or the King of Peace. No one fits this description but the Lord Jesus. Melchisedec blessed Abraham, even though Abraham was Gods man. Indeed the lesser was blessed of the greater, one greater than Abraham. His Spiritual position was that of the priest of the most high God. Precisely fitting the work and ministry of the Lord Jesus before the throne of the Lord. Heb. 7:1 No earthly King or ruler has ever fit into the pattern established by this King. He is the King of righteousness. Ruling in righteousness over a kingdom of righteous people. Holding sway over the only kingdom that has ever had the full benefit of peace, He is the King of Peace. Heb. 7:2 Pertaining to Melchisedec it is witnessed that He ever liveth. Because He is life, and gives life to those who call on Him and serve Him. It is His nature and character, life. There is only one in time or eternity who can fit the requirements of this high and holy priesthood. Who else could even begin to establish themselves as being capable of fulfilling all the divine stipulations which are established for this Divine office? Only one is both the sacrifice and the priest eternal having met all the stipulations of a perfect sacrifice and priesthood. Heb. 7:26-27.
