ABRAMS PRIEST. The very introduction of this one who went out to meet Abram and was the “Priest of the most high God,†should forever settle any question as to His identity. Here is a High Priest who is not of the Aaronic priesthood. A ministry which clearly preceded that which was established under the Law. It is a priesthood of faith, relating to the faith of Abraham and all who are of faith who are blessed with faithful Abraham. Gal. 3:9 The fact that this very special Priest brought forth bread and wine and gave it to Abram and his men, must be given significant attention. This is the first sharing of the cup of blessing and the bread of life ministered by the one who is the bread of life. John 6:33-51 This incident was prophetic of that which would take place under the New Covenant. He is the fulfillment of the Passover meal. Mt. 26:26-28 Further more, this Priest of the most High, had it within His capabilities to bestow a blessing on the man of faith, Abram. Gen. 14:18-19 Abrams action must also be given considerable thought, for he paid tithe of all that he had taken of the spoils of war, while keeping none of it for himself. Tithing, was not instituted under the Law, but was before the Law and practiced by the Father of all who believe. This powerful High Priest received tithes of Abram, attesting to the exalted position which was His and the great respect Abram had for Him. He recognized Him as more than just an earthly priest, truly, the Priest of the Most High God.
THE REVELATION OF A NAME. As much as any other name found in the scriptures the name of Melchisedek is a great revelation of who and what the one who bears that name is to be. His name means, King of righteousness. The Son is accredited as one possessing a Throne. Acts 2:30 He is also declared to be God. The man, the High Priest who will reign in the kingdom of eternal righteousness. He was also the King of Salem [Peace or peaceful] which should speak volumes to us of the greatness of this person, Melchisedek. Heb. 7:1-2 The scriptures so beautifully and wonderfully unveil Him. The prophecy of Isaiah was that He, Jesus, would be the Prince of peace. Isa. 9:6 He has committed His peace to those who believe on Him. His peace is full and complete. It erases the heart that is filled with trouble and consternation with the fear that accompanies it. Granting the peace that passes understanding. Peace in the face of testing and trial. John 14:27 His greeting to the Disciples as they had gathered together, in fear, after His death and resurrection was one of Peace. Most assuredly with His greeting to them came also that wonderful peace. John 20:19 The God of peace will work in the lives of His children in a manner and method that will produce peace. The heart that the Lord has sanctified is at peace. The total man, spirit, soul and body rejoices and is blessed by being at peace with the Lord. 1 Thes. 5:23 Jesus is the very essence of peace. There is no peace apart from Him. He is our peace. In these last days, more than ever before we will need His peace. His peace is yours if you walk with Him.
