THE LAST HALF OF DANIELS SEVENTIETH WEEK, IN REVELATION. MEASURED IN DAYS. A thousand two hundred and three score days. Since the prophecy given to Daniel was to the PEOPLE and to the HOLY CITY. It is fitting that the fulfillment be in enacted in Jerusalem. This is where the TWO WITNESSES will minister for a period of one thousand two hundred sixty days, or the last half of Daniel’s seventieth week. These two men are Moses and Elijah, the Law and the Prophets. The Law and the Prophets was the method by which the Lord spoke to and led the PEOPLE. This is the real reason the PEOPLE are returning to Israel, which is necessary, in order for them to receive and benefit from the witness of these two men. The way of Salvation, during this period of time will be identical to that which was in effect during the ministry of the Lord Jesus in the first half on the seventieth week. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved. No one will be born of the Spirit for He will have been taken out of the way. 2 Thes. 2:7 Belief in Jesus as the Messiah will bring salvation to them at that time.
TWO MEN, TWO WITNESSES. In the mouth of two or three witnesses every word is established. A witness cannot testify of hearsay. He must be an eye witness. Actually having seen or heard the event of which he will testify. In order to bear convincing witness or evidence it is necessary that these two were observers of certain events in the life of the Lord Jesus. We introduce them by going to the Mount of Transfiguration. Jesus had remarked that some who stood with Him would not see death before they had seen the kingdom of God and the power of that kingdom. They beheld the kingdom and its power in a transfigured Christ. It was not His intent to make them think that the day of Christ was at hand Mark 9:1 It must be noted that the event that we are about to consider took place after SIX days. Jesus took three disciples with Him. Three is the number of the Godhead. Counting Jesus they were four, the number of the earth. There were five witnesses, five the number of atonement. Altogether there were six of them on the Mount. Six is the number of man. These numbers are not circumstantial but a deliberate act of God. In brief they speak to us and say; God coming to earth with redemption for man. Mark 9:2 A day with the Lord is as a thousand years. From creation to the present time is six thousand years or six days. The resurrection and translation of believers will take place after the sixth day. The Lord knows when that day will arrive. He keeps a proper calendar. The times are in His hands. The transfigured Christ is a preview of how the redeemed of the Lord will appear throughout eternity. His face was as brilliant as the SUN. His garments shined, they glistened with light. They are the whitest, of a heavenly dazzling white, purity of purity. As white as light itself. Brilliant, blazing, like lightening.
THE TWO WITNESSES. They are identified as being Moses and Elijah. These men carried on a conversation with Jesus. Mt.17:3, Mk. 9:4 Their conversation was concerning the sacrificial death of Christ at Jerusalem. Moses and Elijah were not at all unfamiliar with altars and animal sacrifices. Moses Received the law of sacrifice. Elijah is famous for his alter built when he encountered the prophets of Baal and his subsequent victory over them. Here their conversation is not of type and symbol but of the real sacrifice of the Lamb of God. The two, were clothed in the glorious splendor of the Almighty. They represent the Law and the Prophets. They must give a full and complete witness of the manifest RIGHTEOUSNESS of God, The Lord Jesus Christ. Rom. 3:21 These two, being here on the Mount and actuality talking with Jesus poses a question that is answered in the volume of the BOOK.
