When researching the Godhead we are dealing with what Paul called a mystery. 1 Tim. 3:16 A mystery creates a challenge. It calls for a solution. The resolving of the mystery of godliness, that which is holy and eternal is to be solved through the scriptures. In this case, godliness is made to be a person. The one of whom it is stated as His being “God in the flesh,” or in human form. Furthermore he declared that “God was in Christ.” The Lord Jesus is the Christ, the anointed one. His work is that of reconciling the world unto the Lord. 2 Cor. 5:19 His is the only physical body of God.
Jesus was entitled to bear the privilege to be designated as God, for He is indeed. Jesus, having been conceived by the Father would naturally bear the likeness and image of His Father. Thus we see Him, “in the form of God.” That is, bearing the exact likeness of His Father in every aspect. The nature, the character, the being of the Father being revealed to the world through Him. He removes nothing from the Father as the Son of Man, but rather adds to our comprehension of the true God. For He is proclaimed to be equal with His Father. Phil. 2:6.
The prophet Isaiah made known the coming of one who would be born of a virgin and be named Immanuel, which means God is with us. Isa.7:14 As a matter of fact, when John the Baptist, baptized Him in Jordan, the voice of an extremely proud Father has heard announcing that this person is His beloved Son, in whom He is well pleased. Mt. 3:17 The Father, in order to affirm His strong emotions toward His Son appeared in a cloud on the mount of transfiguration and once again stated that this was His son in whom He was well pleased. Then added an admonition that is still in effect today, “hear Him.” Mark 9:7.
The Lord in the beginning, in the creation of man, made a tripartite being. One man named Adam, whom He created in the image and likeness of the Lord Himself. When He voiced His purpose, He used the personal pronouns, let US, make man in OUR image and in OUR likeness. Gen. 1:26 The product of His creation is a tri-unity. That is, man who is body, soul and spirit. Remove any one of the rudimental elements which compose a human being and they no longer exist as a person. So, having been created in the image and likeness of the Lord, we are the closest tyype of the Triune God who is so beautifully and wonderfully revealed in the Word of the Lord.
