God has a perfect sense of justice and also a sense of humor. Both are seen in v.8. Manoah prayed, the term begged is used in some translations, and seems to be fitting. Note he prayed that the man of God would come to US. In a male dominant society how dare the angel come to his wife and not to him. v.9 In response to his prayers the angel came. But to the wife as she sat in the field. The Lord does not always answer our prayers the way we want. v.10-11. The wife was gracious enough to go call Manoah and he followed her into the field where he was able to meet the angel.
Manoah did not recognize him as being the angel of the LORD. v.13 Spiritual perceptions differ with each individual. v.16 Manoah desired to know his name. v.17-18 The angel responded by saying that it was secret, which in Hebrew was WONDERFUL or remarkable. He revealed Himself as being WONDERFUL. Further more, the angel did wondrously, the root word for Wonderful. He ignited the sacrifice and ascended up in the flames. v.19-20. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel. v.21. Some people are hard to convince. Manoah acknowledged that he had seen God. v.22.
COUNSELOR. To deliberate, advise, resolve or give advice. Isa. 9:6 The LORD is wonderful in counsel. Isa. 28:29 His counsel is perfect. We will not go astray if we heed to it. Too often we do not heed the good counsel of the LORD. We request guidance but do not hear because we have predetermined our actions. Many who seek advice are actually looking for confirmation to their plans. If the advice is contrary to what is planned it is most frequently rejected. The counsel or will of the Lord is unchangeable. He confirmed or guaranteed it by an oath. Heb.6:17 The counsel of the Lord will lead us to purchases of great value. Gold, or righteousness that is eternal. Which will produce true riches that have been purified in the fire. White clothing, pure and holy a covering for past sinfulness. Anointing for the eyes. The Holy Spirit opening our eyes and revealing Jesus to us. Rev. 3:18.
THE MIGHTY GOD. The prophet is still speaking of the child, the son. The valiant man, the champion, the strong man, the mighty conqueror. Jesus was in very nature God. Phil. 2:6 Because of the close knit nature of the Godhead, Jesus must be acknowledged to be God. In the same manner the Father and the Holy Spirit, each may be called God. But this does not make them one and the same person. Their being, their eternal character they share and share equally. Paul states in 1 Tim.3:16 that there is a great mystery and that is of God and His actuality. Jesus was, is and ever will be God appearing in bodily form. In the beginning, the moving of the Spirit of God. The Word was with God, in fellowship and unity. Then the Word was God and came into the world to seek and save the lost. note Jn.1:1.
