The government shall be upon His shoulders. Isa. 9:6 The authority and the responsibility was laid on Him. The High Priest was to bear onyx stones on his shoulders. One on each shoulder with six of the names of the twelve tribes of Israel engraved upon each of them. Ex. 28:9-11 This was an act of representation before the Lord. The High Priest as he ministered, carried Israel on his shoulders before the Lord. It is Christ who is at the right hand of the Father making intercession for us. Rom. 8:34 He is our advocate at the throne of God. We have an advocate who has authority and the capability of presenting our cause to the most high judge.
The key to the house of David was laid upon His shoulders. Full authority is His. Not only is there no other way. But He is the door and the key keeper to the door. Isa.22:22 Literally He is the key. He can open and shut and no man can alter his action. He has given the keys to the kingdom to the church with the same power that is His. She can loose, she can bind on earth and heaven follows suit. He likewise has the keys to hell and death. Rev. 1:18 Christ has conquered both death and the grave. The key to the house of David is the covenant that the Lord made with Him. 2 Chr.21:7 It was a covenant that perpetuated the house of David and assured him of light or the revelation of the Lord himself. The house David was the house of the covenant. Christ is the fulfillment of that covenant. The house of David to be like God. Zech.12:8 The ultimate of the covenant is to have a church, a bride like himself. The fountain of salvation is opened in the house of David with the explicit purpose of cleansing from all impurities and sin. He is producing a sinless race of people. Zech.13:1.
In relationship to His government the Hebrew word misrah is used here and only in respect to His government. It means to prevail or establish an empire. It originates from a root word meaning, to have power as a prince. Christ is the head of His church. He loved her, He has purchased her with His own blood. He is sanctifying her and making her like unto Himself. He feeds her on His Word. He has given her His name to use. He will perfect her and marry her. Eph. 5:27 He will rule during the millennium in a kingdom of righteousness and holiness. No sin nor sinners will be there. If they were, they would not like it nor could they tolerate the kingdom of righteousness. The resurrected righteous will reign with Him. He will reign over eternity and He will reign eternally. Rev. 22:3 His bride will sit with Him on His throne and His fathers throne. Rev. 3:21 She is triumphant and will sit as a Queen on a throne that is a shared throne.
Five names or titles bestowed on Christ showing His character and ministry. We may know Him in every aspect mentioned here. Isa. 9:6
WONDERFUL. In the Hebrew; a miracle, a marvelous thing. Even beyond understanding. He is incomprehensible except by the workings of the Holy Spirit revealing Him to us. There is no possibility of exhausting the wonders that constantly proceed from Him. He not only works miracles but He is the very epitome of all that is wonderful. There is a record of the appearance of one whose name was wonderful in Judges 13: In v.3 He is identified as the angel of the LORD. This angel of the LORD when ever he appears in the Word is a theophany of Jesus, a pre-birth manifestation. This incident helps illuminate just who this angel might be. His message is to the unnamed wife of Manoah (rest). She is barren. In v.5 the promise of bearing a son is given to her. Also the requirements of a Nazarite (separate, consecrated) are imposed on him. He will be a deliverer to Israel, freeing them from the Philistines. In v.6 The woman tells her husband that A man of God appeared to her. His face was very terrible or fearsome. It is certain that His face shown with the glory of the LORD. Such a spectacular display of light would surely cause fear in the heart of one who had never had such an experience. She was so awe stricken from his appearance and His message that she completely forgot to ask him concerning his country and name.
