Seventy weeks determined ( to cut off or decree) to make a complete end to sin and to complete the work of holiness. Dan.9:24 It is the last week or the seventieth week that concerns us at this time. The seventieth week is divided into two parts of equal measure. This is the week of the confirmation of the covenant. It Messiah who will bring to fruition the covenant of the Lord. In the midst of the week is the time when He would be, cut off. After three and one-half years of ministry confirming the covenant he was crucified. The first half of the seventieth year is now history. His sacrificial death on the cross brought an end forever to all sacrifices. Never again will animal sacrifice be acceptable to God. To ever again offer any other sacrifice to the Lord is an abomination read Isaiah sixty-six three. The sacrifice of Jesus was made once and for all. Heb.10:10 One sacrifice for ever. v.12 The sacrifices of the Law can never, nor did they ever remove sin from any person. v.11 For anyone, ever to re-establish animal sacrifice would be an insult to the act of Calvary and to the intelligence of God. It may be done but it will not be acceptable to the Lord. It would bring His wrath on the perpetuator. He fulfilled the first three and a half years in His time on earth. He died in the midst of the week.
The midst of the week is Wednesday. He was in the tomb for a full three days. If you do not understand this I will gladly send you a study on the three days and three nights. I heard Benny Hinn the other day on TV say that the day of crucifixion was Wednesday. That should verify it. He was crucified in the midst of two thieves. He was crucified in the midst of the day, from nine am to three PM. He is the one in the midst of the candlesticks Rev.1:13 He is the tree of Life in the midst of the paradise of God. Rev. 2:7 There is only one half of Daniel’s seventieth week remaining to be fulfilled and that is the three and one half years spoken of in the book Revelation. He was cut off in the midst of the week.
The innocent one crucified. Isa.53:9 He was crucified as a wicked man. As one who was a habitual criminal. Two thieves crucified with him, one on either side. Jesus bore the curse of the Law for all men. The Law could not save, it could not redeem, therefore Christ became the cursed one.Gal.3:13 Jesus was buried in a borrowed tomb. Joseph of Aramethea, he is noted as being a good and upright man. A dissenting member of the Council who had not agreed with the decision made by them. Lk.23:50-52. It must also be noted that he was waiting for the kingdom of God. He was a bold man, in spite of the action taken by the Counsel he went to Pilate and craved the body of Jesus. Mark 15:43 He was also a rich man, thus fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah. He was a disciple of Jesus. Mat.27:57. Jesus was unjustly condemned for He had committed no violent acts. He had never oppressed anyone. He never used craft or guile against anyone. He was innocent of all charges. It pleased the LORD. Isa.53:10 Most vital for our salvation. To bruise Him, literally to crush, to smite. If fallen man was to be rescued from his sin, then one must take his place. Jesus, the innocent one took our punishment that we might not know what it is to be bruised in that fashion.
