ABRAHAM SOUGHT A CITY. The faith of Abraham brought him into
the promised land. Even though they were able to enter into and possess
it. It was not what his faith had led him to expect. He dwelt in tents,
showing a lack of permanency. He lived in the promised land as a stranger in a
foreign country. Heb. 11:9 It was not the earthly, the natural fulfillment of a
promised land that caused him to leave his own land and proceed to another. Abraham was a man of vision. A vision that reached far beyond the mundane things of this and its possessions. Being a man of faith he looked forward to that which was spiritual. He knew the ultimate reward of the call and promise of the Lord. Already, in his day, there is evidence of the Lord sharing His secrets with those who obeyed Him. The revelation of the plan of the Lord was given to Abraham. He looked for a city with foundations. A city that was well established and of true and perfect strength. The architect and the builder being God Himself. No faults, no building errors will ever be found in that city. It is absolute perfection. Heb. 11:10 Today, we are looking too much toward the material and the natural. We need the revelation that Abraham had of a city that is eternal and not of this world. Men fight and kill each other, attempting to posses that which is of this earth, while they ignore the vision of Abraham. That which would bring both sides together in one accord in Christ, as true sons of Abraham.
THE TRUE FOUNDATION. The foundation of God has been inspected,
tested and tried without one weakness being exposed, for there are none.
This strong foundation is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ. All things eternal are founded upon the true foundation, the eternal Son of God,
there is none other. 1 Cor. 3:11 The wise man, the man of true spiritual
understanding and comprehension is the man who will expend time and
energy digging deep into the Word and the Spirit until he finds the rock.
That will become his foundation. His house will with stand the storms and
floods. His house will stand. Lk. 6:48 We are assured that all things which are founded on the Word of Truth will triumph. The Lord knows those who are founded on the Rock, Christ Jesus. They have been sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. The Lord knows the sheep of His pasture. 2 Tim.2:19 The city of the Most High is built as well on the prophets and the apostles. Both classes are founded upon the Chief corner stone, the Lord Jesus. These are they, through whom the spirit spoke the WORD. They were instrumental in bringing to us the scriptures, which is the foundation. When we see the city in all of its glory our hearts will be made exceedingly glad and we will rejoice greatly. The city has twelve foundations to its wall, all established on Jesus Christ. The names of the twelve Apostles are recorded on these foundations as living memorials to their work for the kingdom of Christ. This is the city that Abraham sought. May we ever seek the same.
