Victory over sin is a certainty to the person living for the Lord Jesus. It cannot gain the mastery over those who are in Christ. Rom. 6:14 Temptations will come, even Christ was tempted in every way possible, yet He was without sin. As a man, He was faced with absolutely every form of enticement that the tempter can use to confront human kind, and drag them down into sin. Yet He was without sin. Heb. 4:15 Paul declared that those serving the Lord Jesus are more than conquerors, victorious and triumphing through His love by which has made us to be new creatures in Him. Rom. 8:37.
The purpose of the grace of the Lord Jesus is not to be permissive but to be persuasive, developing in it’s recipients the righteousness that is found in Christ. The right and privilege of the New Man is to live with the righteousness of Christ being made manifest in his life. The foundational works produced at the time of their salvation all have a cleansing, and a purifying effect. Their purpose being the eradication, the putting to death of the old life and the beginning of the new, in Christ Jesus. Therefore, His life becomes our life. A life free from the works of sin and the flesh. Rom. 6:1-4.
The working of the Spirit and the Word will bring forth works and fruit of righteousness. While we are not saved by good works, the presence of the Christ of God will be evidenced by good works. In particular acts and a life of righteousness, manifesting the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Ghost. Titus 3:5 Regeneration is a spiritual birth making new the spirit of man. A changing of life style. A new, a fresh start. It is the release of the sinful life of the past and the beginning of a life that is diametrically the opposite to that old life. It is not a make over but is to be made new.
Paul having given a list of the works of the carnal man identified that old life with the past life, but now, those who are in Christ Jesus have been washed, washed by the blood of Christ, washed in the waters of baptism, washed by the Word of the Lord. Made to be just, or righteous in the name of the Lord Jesus and sanctified, made to be holy and to manifest a life of holiness wrought in us by the power of the Spirit of the Lord. 1 Cor. 6:11.
