A proper and accurate presentation of the Word is required of those who would declare its message. They must rightly divide, discern the truths found in His Word. The new person is one who has a deep rooted love and appreciation for the Word of the Lord. They will not attempt, in any way, to warp or twist it to meet their own desires, or style of life.
2 Tim. 2:15 We are exhorted to buy the truth and not to sell it, while at the same time participating in its wisdom, instruction and understanding. Prov. 23:23.
The Levite, called of the Lord to minister in the office of priesthood, received the promises of the Lord for the people. They were responsible for the presentation of the covenant of the Lord being presented to the people of the Lord and were to stand as mediators between them and the Lord. Their calling was a high and holy calling and involved great responsibility. It was the covenant of life and peace. Promises which were founded on their reverence for the Lord and their appreciation for His name. Mal. 2:4-5 The reasons for this choice made by the Lord are evident. First, the name Levi means to adhere, the Lord was looking for a people who would cling to Him and be faithful to Him. Then, in the reasoning of Leah, this son was to be the turning point of her relationship with Jacob. Gen. 29:34 In Leah we see a type of the old covenant, which was to be replaced by the new.
That which pleases the heart of the Lord is noted in His assessment of all who are appointed by the Lord to the office of an intercessor. They are to proclaim the truth of the Word. A vital necessity in order to produce life in the hearers of the Word. Furthermore, no impurity was to be found in their lips. It is a fearful thing when we remember that we will be called in account for every word spoken. Mt. 12:36 Their language was to be proper in the hearing of the Lord. Their walk was with Him, in His ways, following the paths which are noted as being straight and narrow. In His ways are found the paths of peace and righteousness. His promise is that He will not keep back any good thing, from those who walk according to His Word. Ps. 84:11 Their life is a living example of the life of Christ. The ultimate result of the declaration of the true Word is the salvation of those who will hear and receive the Lord into their heart. An action which not only brings joy to the heart of the repentant but to the presenter as well. Mal. 2:6.
