His name, His Covenant, His blessing are inseparable from His person. He promised that His blessing would be upon the children of Israel, because He would place His name upon them. Num. 6:27 Salvation is to be found by calling upon His name, the only name whereby anyone may be saved. Acts 4:12 The Lord Jesus has extended the very broadest invitation to His church to use His name in prayer. Promising that He will do what has been asked. John 14:13 The right, the privilege to use His name in prayer made available all the power invested in Him. He is over all. The ultimate and full manifestation of His authority over all will be when every knee shall bow at the name of Jesus. Whether in heaven, on earth or under the earth, all will in that day acknowledge His deity and will proclaim Jesus Christ to be Lord. Phil. 2:10-11.
As the Son of Man, the root and offspring of David, He was to be called JESUS, Savior, for He shall save His people from their sins. Mt. 1:21 Faith, trust, belief in His name not only brings salvation and deliverance from sin, it also empowers and enables the believer to become a son of God. Luke 1:63 Faith in the Lord Jesus elevates the believer to the status of a child of God. Gal. 3:26 Having been baptized in Christ, that is in His name, we put on Christ. He becomes our covering, our shield and protector. His life is now made manifest in the person who follows Him. Gal. 3:26 It is vital that we fulfill the Word of the Lord in every aspect of the road of salvation.
Peter’s Pentecostal day message revealed the way of the Lord to all who would hear. His instructions were for them to repent and be baptized. The two go together and are inseparable. Repentance must be followed with baptism in order to build a proper foundation for our Christian experience in the Lord Jesus. Acts 2:38 Philip went to Samaria and ministered concerning the things of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, where he then baptized the converts in the name of Jesus Christ. Acts 8:12, 16 Paul brought the same message to the followers of the doctrine of John the Baptist, who upon hearing his teaching were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Acts 19:5 At Caesarea, Peter baptized those who had gathered in the house of Cornelius in the name of the Lord. Acts 10:48 Thus it is obvious that the early church baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, which is the true name of our Lord, given to Him by His Father.
