A hidden, yet very visible prophecy. Names given in Bible times often contained a message. Sometimes revealing the future of the individual, or circumstances which will occur in their life time, or in the life of a nation, mostly dealing with the people of the Lord. With that in mind, we consider the place where Jacob chose to settle down. It will show us the conclusion of the story of the reconciliation of Jacob and Esau.
Jacob journeyed to Succoth where he established a residence and constructed a house for himself and his family. Succoth, means ìbooths,î and was so named after the booths which he built to shelter his cattle. Gen. 33:17 He must have had one huge, sprawling ranch. The importance of the name Succoth and its meaning, booths is discovered in the actions of Israel during the feast of the seventh month, the Feast of Tabernacles. In this manner and under the circumstances pictured in the story related to us of the reconciliation of these two brothers, Succoth becomes the key to an understanding of what will occur in the future. The Feast of Tabernacles is the one remaining, of the original three yearly feasts, that has not been fulfilled in the church age. We celebrate, by personal experience, the Feast of Passover in our salvation. The Feast of Pentecost in the baptism of the Spirit. The spiritual implementation of the Feast of Tabernacles will usher in a tremendous harvest of souls. It is the final visitation of the Spirit prior to the great tribulation. It will also produce the church of which Paul spoke when he wrote to the Ephesian church in Ephesians five. The perfect, the mature, marriageable, last day church which will become His Bride. Eph. 5:23-32.
The actions of the people who returned from captivity in Babylon are also of importance to the prophecy. They not only had returned from Babylon, having been released, but now they had discovered the Word of the Lord. Neh. 8:14 What a glorious discovery, the Law, the scroll or book instructed them in spiritual matters. A through understanding and life in the Word is absolutely necessary for a revival to break out. It is the Word of Life. They went into the country side and the mountains and diligently gathered five manner of branches, five is the number of atonement, perfect, full atonement. Neh. 8:15 The also built their booths in five different areas. Neh. 8:16 A double five. Associated also with the Feast of Tabernacle is the blessing of the ìdouble portionî or a full, a complete measure of the Spirit of the Lord being made manifest in the church. The request of Elisha (who is a type of the church) was for a double portion of the Spirit which was on Elijah (a type of Christ). 2 Kings 2:9 Not just twice as much but a complete and all inclusive portion.
