Freedom, one of the most sought after principles of human existence on this earth. Wars have been fought as men have sought to obtain their freedom and that of their children and following generations. Multitudes of those who may be politically free are still bound by the fetters of sin and iniquity. Real liberty is found in the forgiveness of sin granted to those who repent before the Lord of their life of sin. In Christ alone is to be found deliverance form the law of sin and death. The new birth will produce the life of the Spirit whereby sin will no longer have dominion over those in Christ Jesus. Rom. 8:2.
Those who are loosed from the servitude of sin become the servants of the Lord. It is the intent of the Lord that the redeemed be completely delivered from the chains of iniquity and begin to serve in righteousness before the Lord. Rom. 6:18 The intent and purpose of the Lord Jesus in working a work of deliverance in the lives of those whom He healed and delivered is found in His words to them. To the bed ridden man whom He commanded to take up his bed and walk, He said; ìgo and sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.î John 5:14 When Jesus said he had been made whole His remark was not only to the physical healing but to the spiritual as well.
Therefore he was urged by Jesus not to repeat his life of sin. Real physical healing brings with it the spiritual as well, note James 5:15, ìif he has committed sins they shall be forgiven him.î The Lord does a through job when He touches an individual with healing virtue. It is a work accomplished in body, soul and spirit, the complete man.
Why do we compromise and say that we have to sin every day in word, thought or deed when the Lord has promised us freedom from sin. The price for absolute freedom is not the price which the flesh wants to pay. We want everything which was purchased for us at Calvary in the death of the Lord Jesus, but at no cost to us. Yes there is a price to be paid, a commitment to be made, in order to receive all that the Lord has for us. We know for certain that the allegiance shown by the Apostle Paul had itís roots in his complete surrender to the Christ of God. He said; ìI am crucified with Christ.î Gal. 2:20 That is the secret of utter victory over, and a complete release from sin. Let Christ, through the Spirit and the Word live and reign in the spiritual man. Whatever path is taken, be it by a spiritual experience or by a bad but learning experience in this world, the ultimate goal of the Holy spirit is to bring the flesh to the cross of Christ. There we are to suffer with Him, that we also might reign with Him.
2 Tim. 2:12.
