A REST NOW. The rest (to take ease) of salvation. An offer that is extended to all the peoples of the earth. Proffered to those who live under the burden of sin and iniquity. This is a personal invitation from the Lord Jesus. Mt. 11:28 There is also the rest that is found in the infilling of the Holy Spirit. Isaiah proclaimed that with stammering lips and speaking in tongues the Lord would speak to His people. This was to be their place of rest and tranquillity. Isa. 2:11-12 Faith is the door for rest, to those who have confidence and believe the Word of God. Heb. 4:3
THE REST OF THE MILLENNIUM. Joshua led the Israelites into the promised land but was not able to give them rest. Therefore the Lord declared that there was to be another day, a coming day of rest. Heb.4:8 It is called a Sabbath-rest. (ASV. NIV) This is a day appointed by the Lord. The ultimate of our goal as a Christian should be to participate in that glorious time. It is a day of the cessation of our labor. That does not mean there will be no activity. Unbelief will exclude one from that kingdom. Heb.4:10-11 We are to take care that we do not follow in the same manner of unbelief as the Israelites. Heb. 4:1 The Word ministered to them was not mingled with faith. Therefore they (the generation that left Egypt) did not enter nor would God allow them to enter into the land of rest. Heb. 4:2-3 There is a promised future rest for the people of God. Heb. 4:9 Those who are privileged to enter into that rest of the Lord will have ceased from their labors, even as the Lord did from His in creation. Heb. 4:10 As in the week of creation the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. Ex. 20:11 So the coming Sabbath or the millennium will be a time of giving honor to the Lord our redeemer. The Sabbath is a holy day or a day of holiness. The sinner would not be comfortable in that kind of an atmosphere.
THY KINGDOM COME. The prayer Jesus taught His disciples to pray. His prayer is found in John seventeen. The appearing of Christ and the establishment of the Millennial Kingdom are synonymous. The Second Coming and the appearing of Christ are one and the same moment of time. The Appearing or Epiphany (Gr. epiphaneia, manifestation, brightness or shining forth), is at the close of the tribulation period. We have already noted in this study that the antichrist is destroyed by the brightness of His coming or advent, ( the epiphaneia of His parousia). The antichrist must be annihilated and the earth cleansed before the Kingdom of Christ can be established. 2 Thes. 2:8
