The laying of a true foundation stone in Zion that is of infinite value. Isa. 28:16 There is an interesting statement made in Psalms 87:1 this foundation or beginning is in the Holy Mountain. This is a Spiritual foundation for a Spiritual building. Jacob’s pillow became, God’s House. Gen.28:22Jacob anointed the stone. Christ is the anointed and rejected stone and has become the foundation stone of the true, the Spiritual Zion. All must be founded upon Christ. Other foundation can no man lay. Israel in the wilderness drank of the rock that followed them and that rock was Christ, the anointed one. There was no way that they would allow themselves to be separated from that rock. It was their life source, even as Christ is the life of the church. The foundation stone was one that has been tested and conversely is a stone that tests. A precious stone, a stone of great value, the Hebrew word also indicates, brightness. Which would be very fitting for the ONE who is the LIGHT of the world. He is the corner stone, the stone of strength, a bulwark and a stay. All things spiritual are founded on this stone of absolute strength and durability. The believer shall not make haste. There is a calm and assurance that rests with those who trust in Christ. They will not be easily upset or perturbed.
Peter draws a contrast between those who build on the rock and those who reject the rock. 1 Pet. 2:6-8. This is the stone upon which the true Zion must be built. To the believer the stone is most precious. Of highest esteem and the epitome of dignity. But to the disobedient, that stone which they rejected and continue to reject, God has made to be the very beginning, and the capstone of the Zion of the Lord. It is the stumbling stone causing men and the nation to fall. That which the Lord had intended for good and blessing, because of unbelief, became a judgment to them. They could not accept the living WORD that appeared to them. Therefore they were disobedient and failed to recognize their Messiah. They were appointed to unbelief, what a judgment. After centuries of insubordination the climax had finally come upon them. They were cast aside and another was appointed in their place.
Without repentance, without faith in the atoning blood of the Lord Jesus, there is no hope for any person or nation in the world today. It is NOT POSSIBLE that animal sacrifice can remove sin. Heb. 10:4 The blood of animal sacrifice could never take away sins. Heb. 10:11 There is only ONE acceptable sacrifice, that is the offering of Calvary, the once for all sacrifice of Christ. Heb. 10:10 The complete and everlasting rejection of animal sacrifice may be noted in Isaiah 66:3. Animal sacrifice is an insult to the Lord. It is and ever will be a stench in His nostrils. No greater sacrilege could be committed than to restore a sacrifice that is rejected by His WORD. It would be the abomination of all abominations.
