THE NAME LORD, A SHARED NAME. We are assured that LORD is His name by His own declaration. Through the prophet Isaiah, He plainly stated the “LORD” was His name and that His glory He would not give to another. Isa. 42:8 Were there not the closest of affinity and unity between the persons of the Godhead such a statement could not be made. LORD is a name that relates to the Father, The Son as well as the Holy Spirit. In declaring the Lord Jesus to be His Son, He also decreed Himself to be a Father. Ps. 2:7 At the baptism of the Lord Jesus, the heavenly voice was heard whereby the Father said that Jesus was His beloved Son. Mt. 3:17 That voice and its acknowledgement was heard again on the mount of transfiguration when the Father proclaimed Jesus to be “My Son in whom I am well pleased.” Mt. 17:5 Jesus was the ultimate of Son ship by being totally committed to the will of His Father. He was a perfect Son. Jesus came into this world as a servant. Dedicated to performing the will of His Father. The extent of His works are to be found in Isa. 42:1-7.
BECAUSE OF HIS OBEDIENCE. The perfect acquiescence of the Son produced the highest praise and award of the Father. He was given a name that is above all names that will ever be named on earth or in heaven. At His birth He was Jesus. In exalting Him, the Father took of His own name and bestowed it upon His Son. Calling Him Lord, thus showing the Spiritual equality and uniqueness that is found in the Godhead. Phil. 2:9-11 The Son of His joy and delight. He is therefore proclaimed to be both Lord and Christ. Acts 2:36 Jesus, the Lord exalted to the right hand of the Father or LORD. There He sits enthroned today and will occupy that glorious position throughout eternity. Ps. 110:1 The full rights and authority of His Fathers name were conferred upon the Son when He was filled with the Spirit. The eternity and equality with the Father is noted in Micah 5:2 He is “from old, from everlasting.”
THE LORD IS THAT SPIRIT. Or as the Amplified Version states, “where the Spirit is Lord.” Where the Spirit is given absolute liberty and freedom. Where He is appropriately recognized, His will followed and He is accepted for who He is, there is going to be freedom in the Spirit. It is the Spirit of the Lord who becomes the revelator of The Father and the Son to us. He is our contact with all that is heavenly and spiritual. 2 Cor. 3:17 It is He who makes Jesus real in the lives of His people.
