LUKE PRESENTS THE TRIUNITY. God, the Father, with whom there are no impossibilities. Luke 1:37 In that day the prospect that Mary, a virgin, could bear a child was not possible. The Lord, Is God and with Him all things are possible. Today, artificial insemination is widely practiced. Mary is assured that He who would be born of her was to be the Son of the Highest. He was to be magnificent and came as the one who would occupy the throne of David, or the eternal throne of the living Lord. His kingdom is eternal. He shall rule over the spiritual house of Jacob, the redeemed, the blood washed. The kingdom now is spiritual and is no longer a natural, earthly kingdom. There is no name more precious and wonderful than the name of Jesus. It is the only name of salvation. We owe so much to Jesus. Luke 1:31-34 The Spirit is seen as the One through whom the seed, the Word of God was implanted. For, the Word, the Logos was to become flesh. John 1:14 Until this day, there never has been a more sanctified and holy moment than that when the Holy Spirit came upon Mary with His mighty power and the Lord Jesus was conceived. Luke 1:35 Thus we see that the Godhead was fully involved in the coming of the only Savior into this world.
THE WATER BAPTISM OF THE LORD JESUS. John the Baptist had come in the “spirit and power of Elijah.” In this manner fulfilling the prophetic utterance that had proclaimed his appearing prior to and as an introduction to the ministry of the Lord Jesus. Luke 1:17 John was not Elijah but the same prophetic anointing was upon him. Elijah is yet to come and shall precede the coming of Christ according to the prophecies such as Mt. 4:5-6 John knew and understood the baptism of the Spirit therefore confessed that he needed to be baptized with the Spirit, by the Lord Jesus. It was not yet time for that precious anointing to be made available. Not until the Son of God had been filled with the Spirit. Jesus verified the baptism of John by submitting to being baptized by him. It was not a form but a deep spiritual experience. Jesus said it, “was to fulfill all righteousness.” The life and ministry of Jesus would have been inadequate without this blessed moment. The Spirit, completing the purpose of the Lord came upon the Lord Jesus and anointing Him for His life of service. The Father spoke from heaven and proclaimed to be the Son of His love, “in whom He was well pleased. So, the completeness of the Lord was evident at this vital moment in the life of Christ. Mt. 3:13-17.
